HEALTHFEST 2000
The Prince George's Community College, Prince George's Society of Health Professionals, Maryland Black Mayors, and Suitland Family and Life Development Corporation are hosting the second annual HEALTHFEST: The Promotion of Wellness_. HEALTHFESTÔ is a community-based initiative to increase access to health care and reduce health disparities in Prince George's County. This annual event has been designated as a national model for community organizations to reach the U.S. Surgeon General's vision for 100% health access and zero health disparities in America by 2010. HEALTHFESTÔ is more that a 1-day fun-filled festival; it is a national campaign that connects Federal, State, County and local governments with the community. The health disparities are: cancer screening and management, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, HIV Infection/AIDS, infant mortality, and immunization. Held July 15, 2000, 8am-4pm, at Prince George'e Community College in Largo, Maryland.

US veterans marched at the Memorial Day parade held in Washington DC. Thousands of US veterans and citizens participated the parade to commemorate the Memorial Day which came on the last Monday of each May. The nine-block march along Independence Avenue featured bands, floats, vintage automobiles and vintage servicemen.
