Our paid staff of three coordinates more than 450 volunteers, maximizing human resources and energy to meet the needs of the homeless. Central Union Mission

Central Union Mission serves almost 200,000 meals to hungry, needy persons each year. The Mission's Food Services Ministry is responsible for providing these meals in support of the Mission's other ministries. Meals are provided at no cost to overnight guests off the streets of Washington, men and women in our transformation programs, families in distress, children at camp and many others who walk in during emergencies. The main kitchen and dining room are located in the Men's Ministry and headquarters building at 1350 R Street, NW and satellite kitchens and dining rooms are found at Camp Bennett and Holmes House.

Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV)

Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV), operator of the largest full service homeless shelter of it's kind in America. Located in the heart of Washington DC just a few blocks from the Capitol Building, CCNV is a model shelter for 1,350 homeless men and woman offering, directly or through its service providers, a full array of social services; drug and alcohol rehabilitation; medical, mental health and dental care; and cultural activities.

Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness

Between 1994 and 1999, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the District’s Department of Human Services, the Partnership was delegated the lead responsibility for planning, creating, managing and administering a homeless “continuum of care” under a program known as the “DC Initiative.” When the DC Initiative ended in March 1999, the Partnership was selected by the Department of Human Services through a competitive solicitation to continue its role as lead agency for the District’s homeless continuum of care through 2004.

Covenant House Washington

- The Covenant House (CVHDC) is a privately funded agency that provides services to inner-city youth that suffer from homelessness, abuse and neglect. The youth are given shelter, food, clothing, medical care, educational and vocational training, counseling and other services defined by personal need. CVHDC has fashioned a program that uniquely responds to the needs of children and youth in the community of Anacostia and Congress Heights in Wards Six-East and Eight. CVHDC's Crisis Center is a safe haven that guarantees youth access to safe shelter and an array of supportive services 24-hour a day, seven days a week.

DC Central Kitchen

Volunteers are an integral part of the D.C. Central Kitchen. Currently, over 5,000 volunteers a year come through the Kitchen. Church groups from across the country, local high school and college students, employees of major corporations, and individuals seeking to make a difference in our community to come together at the Kitchen. Working side by side with students of the Job Training Program, volunteers help to prepare 3,000 meals a day, 365 days a year. Volunteer opportunities are available seven days a week. Volunteers help in food preparation, kitchen upkeep, and outreach to residents of local homeless shelters.

Manna Food Center

What we do is simple and essential. Manna Food Center fights hunger in Montgomery County by collecting and distributing two million pounds of food each year to needy individuals and families. Manna provides a five-day supply of perishable and nonperishable food to each individual or family at one of five distribution points in the County. Manna also distributes food to Montgomery County homeless shelters, soup kitchens, group homes, and low-income housing areas.
