Sixth & I Historic Synagogue
This impeccably restored and active Jewish house of worship is an excellent example of American synagogue architecture of the early twentieth century. Completed in 1908,it served the Adas Israel Congregation until 1951 when the Turner AME Church purchased the building. Recently, three prominent local developers – Abe Pollin, Shelton Zuckerman and Douglas Jemal – arranged for the purchase of the building in 2002 when the church made plans to move to a new location, and they managed the restoration. It was rededicated in April 2004.
