Fairfax NOVA's Out of the Darkness Walk 12674
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is hosting Fairfax NOVA's 5th Annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk at George Mason University on September 10, 2011. Funds benefit AFSP's research and awareness programs to help bring suicide out of the darkness.

A Call to Compassion 13148
To mark the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Washington National Cathedral joins the three sites most affected on that day to present "A Call to Compassion." The program will gather Americans to honor the memories of those who were lost, heal the wounds caused by terrorism and war, and gain new strength to move forward as a nation.

Canal Stewards Cleanup 13172
Help the Conservancy clean up and beautify the land and water surrounding Lock 8, and along miles 8 and 9 of the C&O Canal towpath. This monthly cleanup day engages volunteers in a long-term relationship with the C&O Canal National Historical Park. Cleanup activities include picking up trash, pruning vegetation along trails, and repairing the towpath and trails. Wear clothes that can get dirty- we'll provide all the necessary tools and equipment.

Get to know Washington's trees. This course provides a foundation in tree anatomy, tree identification and an overview of how trees function to provide the benefits we enjoy in the urban forest. The session will culminate with a street tree identification walk led by Casey Trees staff.

Chef/Owners of Black Restaurant Group, Barbara and Jeff Black, have teamed up with the Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex and Dr. Fran Cogen, MD of Children’s National Medical Center to help raise money for juvenile diabetes. Proceeds from the evening will help meet their fundraising goal of $200,000 to build a state-of-the-art kitchen at the Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex at Children’s National Medical Center to support children with diabetes.
