In 1944 President Franklin D. Roosevelt called for the creation of the Presidential Pilot Office's to provide air transportation to the President and his staff. The current presidential fleet consists of two specifically-configured Boeing 747-200B series aircraft - tail numbers 28000 and 29000 - with Air Force designation VC-25A. When the President is aboard either craft, or any other Air Force aircraft, the radio call sign is "Air Force One."

Camp David serves the President, providing the First Family and their guests with a healthy, safe and uniquely private place to work or relax. Established as "Shangri-La" by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, it was subsequently renamed Camp David by Dwight Eisenhower.

The National Security Act of July 26, 1947, created the National Security Council under the chairmanship of the President,with the Secretaries of State and Defense as its key members, to coordinate foreign policy and defense policy, and to reconcilediplomatic and military commitments and requirements. The President is proposing to create the Department of Homeland Security. This is the most significant transformation of the U.S. government in over a half-century. The creation of this cabinet-level agency is an important step in the President's national strategy for homeland security.

Lynne V. Cheney, wife of Vice President Richard B. Cheney, has earned a reputation as a forceful advocate for improving education in America. She is currently a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), where she is focusing on education standards and policy. Prior to her tenure at AEI, Mrs. Cheney served as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities from 1986 to 1993.

Laura Welch Bush, the only child of Harold and Jenna Welch, was born and reared in Midland, Texas. Laura Bush developed a love of reading and learning during her primary and secondary school years. She attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1968.

For nearly four decades the PFIAB has acted as a nonpartisan body offering the President objective, expert advice on theconduct of U.S. foreign intelligence. This role reflects the vital assistance that intelligence provides the President in meeting hisexecutive responsibilities. The President must have ample, accurate and timely intelligence; and most recent Presidents havesought the assistance of a separate, unbiased group -- the PFIAB -- to advise them on intelligence matters.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative was created by Congress in the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 andimplemented by President Kennedy in Executive Order 11075 on January 15, 1963. Initially named the Office of the SpecialTrade Representative this Agency was authorized to negotiate all trade agreements programs under the Tariff Act of 1930 andthe Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
