MCHS takes pride in its adoption program, through which nearly 3,500 pets each year obtain new beginnings in life. Whether unwanted by its previous owner or picked up as a stray and never claimed, each animal has suffered the fear and misery of being homeless. This is why the MCHS makes every effort to ensure that pets are placed only in good homes where they will be wanted, looked after, and loved for the rest of their lives.

Westmoreland County Animal Shelter
We update our Pet List every Wednesday and Saturday evening. All stray dogs taken to the shelter have a 5-day period ofgrace, after which they can be euthanized (those with collars get 10 days). Surrendered dogs (those with names in our list) cango any day. With so many dogs coming in all the time, many do not get much extra time beyond the state requirement. We'llput a special note on the bios for those dogs whose stay at the shelter has become one on death row.
