Onward to Billy Goat Trail

From the parking lot across from Angler's Inn, we cross the C&O canal. To the left the canal is as you expect it to be: placid, beautiful and inviting.

However, to the right the effects of the devastating floods of spring 1996 are obvious. The canal towpath has been washed away and the canal is empty. Part of the canalís concrete liner has also been washed away.

It is a little after 2 pm as we head upriver across the washed out portion of the towpath. Ahead lies Wide Water where Billy Goat Trail begins. Wiley leads the way followed by Luke, Alexandra, Caitlin and Rupert (camera).
