- Alexandria Shotokan Karate Club (ASKC) is a traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate club focused primarily on disciplined, fundamental Karate technique, fitness, and spirit in a non-competitive (non-tournament focused) atmosphere. ASKC trains as rigorously and as disciplined as all JKA and other serious martial arts dojos. ASKC focuses on development of Ki, internal and spiritual strength and discipline, and adherence to the martial arts philosophy of humility, respect, and perfection of character. ASKC members are welcome to participate in other martial arts disciplines, tournaments, and competitions and do so independently of ASKC. ASKC is open to the general public for members age 12 and above.
Karate, as practiced at the ASKC dojo, promotes the traditional Shotokan style. ASKC welcomes everyone, regardless of rank or former style, to join in the practice sessions. ASKC presents an ideal training program for karateka who, for whatever reason, cannot devote full-time to Martial Arts training, yet wish to enjoy the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of the Karate by practicing in the traditional Shotokan manner.
Club membership is open to members of the general public at the discretion of its Senior Instructor Cesare Marino. As a public service, law enforcement officers and firefighters are admitted without fee. ASKC adheres to traditional Japanese dojo etiquette and its members strive to follow the principles and precepts of Master Gichin Funakoshi’s Dojo Kun. Since ASKC teaches traditional Shotokan Karate, all instructions are given in Japanese.
