The landscape of flowering cherry trees around the Thomas Jefferson
Tidal Basin in Washingon, DC originated in 1912 as a gift of friendship
to the United States from the people of Japan. The simple beauty of the
cherry blossoms is a potent symbol equated with human life and the
transformations of Japanese culture throughout the past to the present.
This gallery is broken into the traditional events that take place
during the Cherry Blossom Festival every year. Within each event you
