There is no such thing as a B-24 Lancaster. This plane looks like a British Avro Lancaster. The American Consolodated B-24 Liberator has a similar configuration.

While optically perfect here on earth, the lens shape changed under zero g to a point where it was utterly useless. Possible the biggest dissapointemnt in Astronomy until the first repair was done by the Space Shuttle crews and Astronaut Story Musgrave.

More than a transport, Northrop used the knowledge gained in this as one of the first ALL-METAL designs. Technology advances gained here lead to the developement of the DC-3 and Aircraft construction as we know it today.

That is not a U-2 Spy Plane.
It is in-fact a
"THE" Bell Aircraft XP-59A Airacomet.
This was first US Jet Aircraft. First flown in 1942 using teh GE model 1-a engine (an improved version of the original "whittle" engine. The aircraft seen here was secretly transported with a "false" nose and propellor to disguise the actual nature of the beast. From this begining, the Lockheed P-80 emerged as the 1st operational military jet fighter.
