There were four major obelisks erected by Freemasons in the 19th century. The 1st was brought to France from Thebes, Egypt, and was placed in Paris's Revolution Square. The 2nd was brought to England from Alexandria, Egypt, and was placed next to the Thames river in London. The 3rd obelisk was brought to America in 1881 from Alexandria, Egypt, and was placed in Central Park in New York City. The 4th was the Washington Monument, built to commemorate our First President, George Washington. The Washington Monument was constructed to honor the first Masonic President, and was designed so that both the White House and the Capitol face toward it.
