Wow! There is nothing there but the Tiber Creek swamp. From what I understand, the Tiber Creek still exists but is now buried in a mysterious underground sewer system beneath the city.

Why not turn it into a sundial

The circle around the monument could be easily marked with time of day indicators. I don't think that General George Washington's memorial needs a sun dial, but it sure would be easy to do.

Frozen Potomac River

To the right of the Francis Scott Key Bridge you can just see the Georgetown University in the hills above the bridge. On the left side of the bridge, is Crystal City Virginia.

I saw a dog house fashioned to look just like the White House once. I wonder if anyone has made a copy of this building for themselves anywhere. It could be scaled down to average mansion size, yet maintain a nearly duplicate appearance.

I need Masonic anything.

I know GW was a Mason, and I know the Washington Monument has Masonic undertones, but does anyone know where I can obtain a Masonic-flavored keepsake? My grandfather was a free-mason and I want to give him a DC themed gift. Thanks in advance.

What would a building like this be good for?

It is like an office building without any usable square footage, with a top floor observation area. It looks like a lookout tower to me. Why else would this structure have been designed? Perhaps, merely for symbolic reasons. It looks just like the Egyptian Obelisks that were erected in honor of Pharaohs and later moved to their conqueror's homeland as a symbol of power.
