Thats really DC 100 years ago?Wow! There is nothing there but the Tiber Creek swamp. From what I understand, the Tiber Creek still exists but is now buried in a mysterious underground sewer system beneath the city. Posted by NW Native (guest) on Tue 23 Feb 2010 05:08:20 PM UTC
Why not turn it into a sundialThe circle around the monument could be easily marked with time of day indicators. I don't think that General George Washington's memorial needs a sun dial, but it sure would be easy to do. Posted by Tiberius (guest) on Tue 23 Feb 2010 04:34:33 PM UTC
Frozen Potomac RiverTo the right of the Francis Scott Key Bridge you can just see the Georgetown University in the hills above the bridge. On the left side of the bridge, is Crystal City Virginia. Posted by Francis Scott (guest) on Mon 22 Feb 2010 09:52:07 PM UTC
I saw a dog house fashioned to look just like the White House once. I wonder if anyone has made a copy of this building for themselves anywhere. It could be scaled down to average mansion size, yet maintain a nearly duplicate appearance. Posted by Wess T Winger (guest) on Mon 22 Feb 2010 09:42:55 PM UTC
Spectacular Winter in DCWow! When was this picture taken? Is this the storm of 2010? Posted by Wenzel (guest) on Mon 22 Feb 2010 09:22:31 PM UTC
I need Masonic anything.I know GW was a Mason, and I know the Washington Monument has Masonic undertones, but does anyone know where I can obtain a Masonic-flavored keepsake? My grandfather was a free-mason and I want to give him a DC themed gift. Thanks in advance. Posted by Leslie (guest) on Mon 22 Feb 2010 08:07:42 PM UTC

Mystery in DCWhere is everybody? And how in the world are those flags flying in opposite directions at the same time? Posted by Tiber Creek (guest) on Mon 22 Feb 2010 07:50:41 PM UTC
Thirteen for a reason.
"Hence every occurrence of the number thirteen, and likewise of every multiple of it, stamps that with which it stands in connection with rebellion, apostasy, defection, corruption, disintegration, revolution, or some kindred idea." (Bullinger, E.W. Number in Scripture, Kregel Publications, (c)1967, p. 205). Posted by Robert Howard (guest) on Mon 22 Feb 2010 07:32:05 PM UTC
What would a building like this be good for?It is like an office building without any usable square footage, with a top floor observation area. It looks like a lookout tower to me. Why else would this structure have been designed? Perhaps, merely for symbolic reasons. It looks just like the Egyptian Obelisks that were erected in honor of Pharaohs and later moved to their conqueror's homeland as a symbol of power.
